The Gender and Diversity in Organizations Doctoral Student
Consortium is intended to introduce doctoral students to the
division and the field of diversity. Students will have the
opportunity to meet division leaders; learn strategies for
research and publishing in gender and diversity; receive job
market advice; discuss teaching and research career balance; and
discover ways to become involved in the division and the
Academy.

Session 1: Research Collaboration Across the
Academy
Panelists: Myrtle Bell, University of Texas at Arlington ;
Robin Ely, Harvard Business School; Alison Konrad, University of
Western Ontario; Ellen Ernst Kossek, Michigan State University;
Gary Powell, University of Connecticut; Susan Vinnicombe,
Cranfield School of Management.
Panelists will share strategies and advice for developing and
maintaining a productive research stream.
Working Lunch with Journal Editor Mustafa
Özbilgin (Equal Opportunities International) - Editor Mustafa
Özbilgin will discuss the journal review process and offer
publishing advice from both the editor’s and author’s
perspectives.
Session 2: Job Market Alternatives
Panelists: Herman Aguinis, Indiana University; Ian Williamson,
Melbourne Business School
Panelists will discuss their experiences on the job market,
addressing a range of topics such as finding your first job,
changing jobs, comparing international career tracks, and
achieving work life balance.
Session 3: Got Teaching? Building Teaching Into
Your Career
Panelists: Jeanie Forray, Western New England College; Joy
Beatty, University of Michigan-Dearborn; Susan Kirby, Texas
State University
The award-winning teachers discuss advice for succeeding in the
classroom and maintaining an effective balance between teaching
and research.
Session 4: Getting Involved in the Academy and
the GDO Division
Panelists: David Kravitz, George Mason University; Stacy
Blake-Beard, Simmons College
The panelists will outline the importance of service and ways to
get involved in both the GDO division and the larger academy.

Students interested in attending the Gender and Diversity in
Organizations Doctoral Student Consortium are requested to
submit a vita and a brief statement explaining their interest to
both Dr. Joy Beatty (jebeatty@umd.umich.edu)
and Dr. Susan Kirby (prof_kirby@yahoo.com).
After approval, students will be given registration information
to submit to the Academy registration system (RegOnline).Students
must first register for the 2009 Annual Meeting before
registering for the GDO doctoral student consortium.
Space is limited, so students are encouraged to apply as soon
