POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR THE BPS WEB SITE Proposed by the BPS Web Task Force March 2000 Amended and approved by the BPS Executive Committee March 2001
- Purpose and Scope of the Policies
1.1. To provide guidance on the purpose, operations and procedures for the BPS Division web-site. 1.2. To supplement any policies or guidelines for divisional web-sites created by the Academy of Management. 1.3. In the event of a conflict between BPS and Academy web site policies, the Academy policies supercede the division’s policies.
- Purpose of the BPS Web Site
2.1. To support and assist members of the BPS Division in their research and teaching. 2.2. To provide a channel for communication between members of the division. 2.3. To provide a means for the division’s leadership to publicize scheduled activities, events, programs, and opportunities for member involvement. 2.4. To provide a means to develop and publicize links between BPS research and management practice. 2.5. To provide an on-line archive of BPS awards, surveys, meeting minutes, and other activities which will be available to all division members. 2.6. To provide a password protected knowledge bank to assist BPS division officers and consortia chairs in their duties.
- Management of the BPS Web Site
3.1. A Webmaster shall be appointed by the BPS Executive Committee for a renewable three year term and subject to the Committee’s oversight. The Webmaster will be a non-voting member of the BPS Executive Committee like the Newsletter Editor and the Treasurer. 3.2. The Webmaster will post on the web site in a timely manner communications to division members from the Newsletter Editor, the Executive Committee, and individuals that the Executive Committee may place in charge of specific programs, events, or activities. 3.3. The Webmaster is authorized to act for the division on routine matters consistent with these polices and procedures and directives from the BPS Executive Committee. 3.3.1. Routine matters include selecting material from individuals and not-for-profit sources to be posted on the web, the addition of new features consistent with existing guidelines, and generally keeping the web site up to date. 3.3.2. The Webmaster may act on material submitted by for-profit sources if so authorized by the Executive Committee. 3.4. The BPS Executive Committee will provide the Webmaster with an annual budget to reimburse reasonable out of pocket expenses related to the normal operation of the web site. 3.5. The Executive Committee can create informal task forces to assist the Webmaster in the development of new policies, procedures, or major new initiatives.
- Content Permitted on the BPS Web Site
4.1. All content posted on the BPS web site must be related to the stated purposes of the web site and not contain matter that is illegal, offensive, or potentially libelous. 4.1.1. The Webmaster is authorized to determine if material submitted for posting on the web site is illegal, offensive, or potentially libelous. 4.1.2. Members of the BPS Division who have had material rejected by the Webmaster may appeal to the Division Chair Elect who has the final say. 4.2. Material which may be routinely posted on the web site includes information on meetings, calls for papers, working papers, teaching materials, and commentaries on research and teaching. 4.3. Links to other not-for-profit web sites of professional interest and assistance to BPS members may also be posted including links to professional organizations, journals, research databases, and management education sites. 4.4. Links to for-profit web sites may be added at the Webmaster’s discretion provided they offer content, goods, or services of professional interest to BPS members for free or at a discount. 4.4.1. In addition to web sites offering discounts expressly for BPS members, web sites offering discounts to members of the Academy, or college and university faculty in general would also be acceptable 4.5. Any material considered for posting that either will require expenditures by the division or will generate revenue for the division must be approved by a majority vote of the BPS Executive Committee.
- Amending and Terminating these Policies and Procedures
5.1. These polices and procedures may be amended or terminated by a majority vote of the BPS Executive Committee.
