2009 BPS New Faculty Consortium August 7-8, 2009
The BPS Division will sponsor a New Faculty Consortium during the pre-conference period of the 2009 Academy of Management Meeting in Chicago. The objective of the consortium is to enhance the scholarship, teaching, and overall career development of faculty in the early stages of their career. The consortium provides an excellent forum for exchanging ideas and tips concerning teaching and research as well as for expanding one’s academic network. The New Faculty Consortium will be held the afternoon of Friday August 7 and then again during the day of Saturday, August 8. Last summer’s New Faculty Consortium, which was chaired by Peter Zemsky (INSEAD), drew over 40 participants.
The Co-Chairs for the 2009 Consortium are Peter Roberts (Emory) and Nicolaj Siggelkow (Wharton). The faculty facilitators include Christina Ahmadjian (Hitotsubashi), Mason Carpenter (Wisconsin), Peer Fiss (USC), Bill Hesterly (Utah), Glenn Hoetker (Illinois), Guy Holburn (Western Ontario), Jim Robins (Singapore Management), Rachelle Sampson (Maryland), Chuck Snow (Penn State), and Jim Wade (Georgetown). There will also be an editor’s panel with representatives from leading strategy and management journals including AMJ, AMR, ASQ, Management Science, Organizational Science and SMJ.
To qualify participants must have completed their dissertation by September 2008 and are typically in the first through the third year of their academic career, or have recently moved into the Strategic Management/Business Policy field. In addition, a participant should have a record of commitment to teaching and research in the Strategy field and not have participated in prior BPS New Faculty Consortia. Those interested in participating should apply by May 15 2009 via submitting the following items: 1) a current CV, 2) a statement of teaching and research interests (one page maximum in total), and 3) a letter from the applicant’s Dean or Department Chair nominating the applicant to represent their school at the New Faculty Consortium.
Applications should be sent to: Peter Roberts, Goizueta Business School, Emory University, 1300 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, GA, 30322. Electronic applications via email are preferred, but hard copy applications are also acceptable. Participants will be notified of their selection by June 5, 2009.
Any questions concerning the consortium may be addressed to Peter Roberts at peter_roberts@bus.emory.edu.
